Luca Cioci is an Italian filmmaker and visual artist. His interests center around investigating temporarily occupied spaces, observing patterns from multiple perspectives in the raw form of actions and interactions, and projecting these recurrences into perpetual motion.
Luca's practice is grounded in exploring cinematography applied to analog animation techniques such as stop motion. By operating within the medium's tangible qualities and physical limitations, Luca explores the malleability of images and motion by manipulating light, frame-by-frame workflows, and tailoring the textural properties of materials.
Luca's work questions the accessibility, function, and derivative design of utilitarian assets, gravitating toward the destructive properties of contemporary social conventions.
In his recent projects, Luca fabricates and animates mundane objects, service and transit facilities, and inclusive technology components that actively shape social interactions and experiences in modern society.
Luca is currently based in Los Angeles.
